Categories and filters

Categories make up your shop menu, and filters are the tick boxes customers use in the sidebar to narrow things down.

Categories

  1. Go to Settings > Categories.
  2. To add a main category, type its name under Add a main category and press Add.
  3. To add a sub-category, press Edit on its main category and add it there.
  4. Drag categories by their handle, or use the arrows, to set the menu order. It saves straight away.

Press Edit on any category to change its Name, Page heading, Intro (which is also what Google shows) and an optional Notice, such as a delivery note. Renaming keeps the web address, so no links break.

  • New categories show in the shop menu once a product is in them.
  • A category can only be deleted once it is empty. Move its products elsewhere first.
  • Expand all and Collapse all show or hide every sub-category.

Filters

Settings > Filters: Add a filter, then each filter with its categories, options and product count

  3. Add its options, such as Red, Blue and Green, and press Save filter.
  4. Open each product and tick its options in Details > Filters.
A filter not showing?A filter only shows on the categories you tick. If a filter says Not on any category, open it and tick where it belongs. Brand works on its own, from each product's brand, so it does not need setting up.
